Cannon Beach, OR

We made a last minute decision to drive out to the Oregon coast before boarding a plane home. The hour and a half drive from Portland took us on a forested, twisting, two lane road where people sped anxiously towards the coast. With the GPS telling us we'd be there in 5 miles and all we could see was the same forest we saw for the majority of the trip, it was hard to believe we were close. It was with one turn that the coast magically appear and my jaw dropped. A massive rock formation stood in the middle of the beach with several tourists and locals already admiring its beauty early in the morning. When we first arrived, a heavy fog greeted us, covering the beach and making Haystack Rock look eerily majestic. Within minutes, the fog cleared to reveal blue skies and showcase the picturesque scene in a brighter light. The houses overlooking Cannon Beach were quintessential beach houses that were just as pretty as the scenery surrounding them. When heading back to our car, I found myself looking back to get one last glimpse of this gorgeous place. Needless to say, I am so glad we made the trip.
